Message Board - Due 5/31/03

Please download the handout for How to Use the Message Board and begin to participate in that right away.

Follow the directions in the handout and update your personal information in the my profile section. You will need to login first, your login is your last name and first initial. Leave this the same it organizes it in alphabetical order and makes it easier for me when grading. Your password is the same as your login to start, but this you will want to change in the my profile section. (All of this is explained in the handout.

Topic 1 - Introductions and What Do You Hope to Learn About Computers. Post a reply to the topic one and then be sure at some time before the next class reply to what two other people have posted. This must be completed by Saturday, May 31.

 

Windows Tutorials

New Perspectives Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional or  Micorsoft Windows XP (All assignments in this section will be turned in on disk and are due on 05/31/03.)

  • Work through Tutorial 1 (Sessions 1 and 2)
    • Tutorial 1 - Sessions 1: Covers  Windows basics such as starting programs, right-clicking, switching between programs
    • Tutorial 1 - Session 2: Works through the minimize, maximize and restore buttons, resizing and moving windows, menu conventions, toobars dialog boxes and help.
  • Work through Tutorial 2 (Sessions 1 and 2)
    • Tutorial 2 - Session 1: Covers through formatting a disk, creating a file in WordPad, adjusting the word wrap feature in WordPad, and saving, opening and printing a file.
    • Tutorial 2 - Session 2: Creating a data disk, however the directions in the book on page 2.15 are not good. Download the directions here. Then continue thru this activity to change the appearance of files, create a folder, move, copy rename and delete files and copy an entire disk using the copy disk utility.
  • Complete the Study Guide for Tutorial 1 and Tutorial 2 (click on these links to download) These will be checked on May 31 during class.

We will be using this CD throughout the course.

Classic Course Labs

This week you will be introduced to completing the Classic Course Labs. There is also a handout for how to complete the Classic Course Labs. Be sure the have the Classic Course Labs completed by the next class period (May 31). If you have any difficulty with the CD, you will want to work it out right away. Next class you will learn how to complete the New Perspective Labs and Practice Tests. So if you may become overwhelmed if you do not keep up with these assignments.

Look over Chapter 1 Computer, Internet and Network Basics & Chapter 2 Compute Hardware in the New Perspective Computer Concepts 5th Edition book. Download and do the Study Guide for Chapter 1 and then Download the Study Guide for Chapter 2.
